Getting Started

Set up your account and create your first league

How do I create an account?
Click "Sign Up Free" on the homepage and fill in your name, email, and password. You can also sign up using your Google, Apple, or GitHub account for faster access.
What roles are available?
The Gaffer has three roles: Admin (full league control), Manager (team and match management), and Player (view-only access to stats and schedules). Admins can assign roles when inviting users.
Is The Gaffer free to use?
Yes — signing up is completely free. Create an account and start managing your league right away.

Matches & Results

Scheduling games and recording results

How do I schedule a match?
From the Admin panel, navigate to Matches > Schedule. Fill in the teams, date, time, and location. The match will appear in both teams' schedules automatically.
How do I record a result?
After a match is played, go to the match and click Edit Result. Enter the score and individual player stats such as goals, assists, and saves.
Can I edit a result after saving?
Yes. Admins and managers can edit results at any time. Standings and stats update automatically when a result changes.

Teams & Players

Managing rosters and player accounts

How do I add a player to my team?
As a manager, go to your team roster and click Add Player. You can invite them by email — they'll receive a link to create their account.
Can a player be on multiple teams?
Currently each player account is associated with one team per league. If your league has multiple divisions, contact your admin to arrange cross-team participation.
What happens to a player's stats if they change teams?
Stats are recorded per match, so historical stats remain tied to the matches they played, regardless of team changes.

Statistics & Standings

Understanding stats and standings tables

How are standings calculated?
Standings use standard football rules: 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss. Tiebreakers follow goal difference, then goals scored.
Can players see their own statistics?
Yes. Players have their own portal where they can view their personal stats, match history, and the league standings.
Are standings publicly visible?
Yes. Your league standings can be shared via a public link — no login required for viewers.

Schedules & Export

Viewing and sharing your fixture list

How do I export my schedule to a calendar?
From the schedule view, click the Export button to download an iCal file. You can import this into Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, and most other calendar apps.
Does the calendar stay up to date automatically?
If you use the iCal subscription link (rather than a one-time download), your calendar app will periodically sync and pick up new matches and changes automatically.
